A genus consisting of 10 species of spring and autumn flowering bulbs commonly called ‘Snowflakes’, from North Africa and the Southern Mediterranean. All have pendant bell-shaped blooms in either white or pink, with petals of equal length (unlike Galanthus of which they are often confused). They generally require a well-drained sunny position; however L.aestivum prefers semi-shaded moist area. Add a small amount of blood and bone at planting time. They only require extra water if the Winter/Spring season is dry. They naturalise well and only need to be disturbed when they are overcrowded. An underestimated easy bulb that continues to give a show year after year without much attention.
