Albuca consists of over 100 species, mostly from Southern Africa, and are closely related to Ornithogalum. The flowers are borne in an upright raceme on strong stems and may be white, green or yellow but almost always have a striking green stripe on the outer tepals. They appreciate a full-sun position in well-drained soils, and can be a striking addition to a perennial border, rockery or as potted specimens. A dry rest after flowering is advised.
