A genus of six species of rhizomatous perennial Araceae from China, Korea and Japan, which are used in Oriental medicine. The plants are clump forming with leaves varying greatly between species, from simple ovate to compound. Flowers resemble a ‘cobra lily’ with their hooded spathe and extended spadix. They require a semi-shaded, moist , organic rich position. Remove old foliage at the end of Autumn and top dress with a complete fertiliser.
