These very popular and delightful members of the Ranunculaceae family are native to Europe and Asia and are commonly called 'Winter Aconite'. The common name stems from the delicate collar of foliage resembling that of the true Aconite the genus Aconitum.
They are a herbaceous perennial tuber found in the rich leaf litter in deciduous forests, where they get perfect Winter light and Summer shade during their dormancy.
There are eight species in the genus with E.hyemalis (meaning winter flowering) being the most popular in cultivation.
There is no better herald to Spring than this showy little gem!
