HOSTA

Native to Japan and China a genus of 40 species, from which many lovely new hybrids have been breed in recent years. They are easy grown perennials that are valued for their decorative foliage. Shade loving plants suitable for the rockery, borders, as edging plants or adding a touch to the edge of a pond or bog garden. A moist sheltered spot with water at least once a week during Summer. Top dress well in Spring with blood and bone or a well rotted manure and a small amount of lime in acidic soils. Remember to protect the merging leaves from snail and slugs as they are a favourite.
