A genus of more than 100 species mainly from the Winter rainfall areas of South Africa, thus growing through the Winter and Spring and dormant over the Summer months. Tubular flowers from few to many are held in a raceme or spike on stems from 10cm to 30cm. The foliage usually consists of two leaves and many are spotted or pustulated. Plant in a well-drained sunny position enriched with complete fertiliser and lime. They require plenty of water from when growth begins and then can be kept dry at the end of their growing season. Protect from frost during the Winter months.
