HESPERANTHA

This genus of about 80 species belonging to the Iridaceae family is mostly distributed throughout southern Africa. The genus name is derived from the Greek Hesperos meaning evening and Anthos meaning flower, alluding to the habit of some species opening their beautifully fragrant flowers in the afternoon to attract nocturnal pollinators. Most species will do well in full sun and well-drained soils.
