HEDYCHIUM

‘Ginger Lilies’ because of their lush foliage seem tropical, but 40 species of Hedychium are native to mountainous areas of Southern Asia. They produce delightfully scented blooms on stems up to 2 metre and being a rhizomatous perennial they fill a space up to one metre wide. They prefer a rich moist well drained soil. Enrich the soil with Blood and Bone before planting and water once a week during Summer. Remove all old spent flower stems and top dress to improve the vigour of your plants at the end of Winter. They make a wonderful sweetly scented cut flower.
