A genus of 6 species, now considered to be members of the Scilla genus, commonly called ‘Glory of the Snow’ from the mountains of Southern Turkey, Crete and Cyprus where they bloom when the first snow starts to melt, thus their common name. They are ideal in pots or in clumps in the rockery in well drained soil with protection from hot afternoon sun. Enrich soil with blood and bone and leaf mould if available. They dislike being watered a lot so normal spring rain is all they require. They flower better with us when the winters are colder with lots of frosts.
Available January to March
