A small genus native to South Africa, considered by some as a sub genus of Ornithogalum. The name coming from the African explore and scientist Francis Galton. These beautiful Summer flowering bulbs have broad semi erect ‘strap-like’ leaves. The stately flower spikes bear pendant bell-shaped blooms from white through to green.
They require full sun and well drained soil to prevent Winter dormancy rot. Top dress in early Spring with a complete fertiliser and lime. We have found them quite drought tolerant once established, however benefit from weekly watering over the Summer.
One of the most understated of all perennial bulbs. A truly wonderful and easy addition to a perennial border.
Available May to August
