There is only a single species in this genus that belong to the Saxifragaceae family. It is native to the moist forested areas of Western North America and commonly called ‘Fringe Cup’. From Spring through to early Summer flower stems up to 60cm in height appear with numerous small white bell-shaped blooms that have five reflexed deeply fringed petals at their mouth, tinging pink with age giving an overall alluring effect. This evergreen perennial makes an ideal plant for a semi-shaded garden. They are very frost hardy and prefer a well-drained situation enriched with old organic fertilisers. Normal Winter/Spring rains are usually adequate but they benefit from being watered weekly during Summer. Tidy up the plants at the end of Autumn and top-dress with an organic fertiliser.
