There are seven species in this genus of cormous perennials from South Africa to the Sudan. They have long pleated ‘sword-like’ foliage similar to that of a gladiolus. The long flower spikes hold a terminal, horizontal, branching flower head. They flower from early Summer through to Autumn. A position in full sun where they receive weekly watering during the growing period would be beneficial. Top dress in early Spring with a complete fertiliser. Make a great cut flower!
