A rare species is from the Southern coastal Mediterranean region, including Turkey through to Israel. It has broad slightly twisted leaves, from which arises a slender stem topped with a spike of flowers. The buds are deep purple-violet and erect but once open arch down and the gently petals become creamy white in contrast. A great addition to a sunny rockery.
